Domesticity attempts 1 & 2

So, if you recall, Clark really pulled through this Christmas and got me an awesome sewing machine.

Well, I made some things.

First up, my apron. I've made similar aprons for others on different sewing machines, so I thought it would be a good project to learn the ins and outs of my machine.

Cute, no? Except I kinda sorta cut the pattern out upside down.

Good start.

But I went ahead and made it anyway. Fabric ain't cheap, people!

Next up, the infamous rag quilt. I actually made this blanket on my mom's machine months ago while I was visiting my family in Logan. Unfortunately, when I washed it the red bled like a severed limb onto the white, which resulted in lovely bright pink squares!

I'll admit it, I cried a little.

A lot.

I was devastated.

My supermom was able to get most of the pink out, and the only thing left was to fix the numerous, um, imperfections that also presented themselves after the first wash.

Holes. Many, many holes.

So, with my new machine, I fixed them as best I could. Needless to say there will be no close-up pictures of this project.

Not the greatest start to my domestic adventures.

But I guess it could have been worse!

Hey, the apron is perfect for the wearer to see the pattern.

And sewing glitches are part of the fun. I bought a handful of seam rippers, so I always have at least one that is not lost. :)

I can't wait to see what else you create.

ok question: with your rag quilt, did it shred everywhere even after several washes? i made a rag quilt, and i LOVE the look of it. but i can't use it because i get fabric strings all over my black couch!! and i've washed it/ dried it at least 5 times. every time i just have to lint roll it to death, but nothing helps!! sweet that you got a machine! i got one for christmas too! unfortunately, i haven't had time to play on mine yet. i'm jealous. what pattern did you use for the apron!? i LOVE it!! miss you, sus!

Stace-Yeah, the blanket is a lint machine. I have only washed it a couple of times so far, but it has come out with a ton of lint on it. A lot of it I had to pick off by hand because the lint roller couldn't even get it off. Let me know if you find a solution to this problem and I will do the same!
